Why is Mitt Romney saying a 3rd party is a bad idea?
I don't get why Mitt Romney who I saw on TV today saying that a 3rd party is a bad idea. If the conservative party is going to act conservative in name only and engage in the same sort of fiscal irresponsibility that we'd come to expect from Obama & co then the only choice would be a third party in the long run. There's no point in labels anymore, either a party will act conservatively or it wont and I really have no time for those who talk and then act otherwise.
The founding fathers warned about this sort of thing and I think the lack of options right now is one of the main driving forces behind the Tea Party Movement. Of course if Republicans take back power and learn how to fix this insane deficit they could prove us wrong but I think a sort of Tea Party Movement will always be needed to keep them honest and not forget where their policies need to be!
I don't know if he's been involved in any partier protesting lately but I think he's probably saying this because he wants to run in the Republican primaries and obviously it's not in his interests. But I do hope he sees the light and gets involved in a Tea Party Protest one of these days, I just always worry if a Republican runs on these values and then once elected continues the same old money wasting we've been seeing lately.
Mitt Romney is saying that a 3rd party is a bad idea because it is a simple fact that it is a bad idea. There are two reasons, and only two, to have a political party: 1) to make a statement/express some viewpoint/agenda or 2) to win, and actually make a difference.
The 'Tea Party' movement is an outstanding idea and tool for positive Conservative change within the Republican Party. Properly channeled as an organized, strong, core, right-thinking, outspoken, voting block, it can ensure that Republican candidates and politicians remain true to the most basic Conservative ideals.
However, as a 3rd party, it is Ross Perot all over again. Nothing more than a losing proposition. Oh, great, "voices will be heard" and "ideas will be discussed" and "people will take notice", nice. But also, elections will be lost. Democrats will win them. Liberals and Progressives will be in real power positions. NOTHING that the 'Tea Party' wants accomplished will ever actually BE accomplished.
Let's be strong, but let's be smart too. That's all that Romney is saying, and he is correct on that point.
