Could tariffs come back?
One things I've always thought about, is competition is fair and good right. But until globalization made the whole world a lot smaller we were always competing with countries that had minimum salaries and minimum safety standards etc. Like if we're going to be competing with Germans or British people I see no real problem with it since it's going to be about whose better to a certain extent.
But then lately I'm seeing a lot of jobs go overseas because even with higher quality products there's no way to compete when someone can get labor literally fifty times cheaper (China I'm looking at you!) ... so a lot of this is obviously achieved by slave labor conditions and lack of choices for the workers there, it's unlikely that they actually enjoy working for $2 a day from what I've read. So my question is could tariffs returning a bit just on certain countries help fix this problem, to help level the playing field a bit , only in places that don't respect anyones rights. Pracitcal or it'd cause too much other trouble?
It's possible. If the deficit keeps going worse and worse they're going to try any and every way to keep it down, if they had any brains they'd listen to the tea party movement and do what makes sense, cut useless spending and pork projects... but more likely they'll try tariffs or taxes or whatever they can cook up. Need to stop them!
