Should the USD be linked to Gold?

Should the USD be linked to gold?

I'm not an economist but I heard quite a lot of people calling for the return of the gold standard, I mean the theory is that gold will always be valuable but I don't know... if things ever got so bad in the world that society had broken down tinned food and guns will be what's valuable, not metal blocks. So I'm not sure if considering that there's much sense for the gold standard since it doesn't really have a lot of use in the doomsday scenarios that the people who want the gold standard back are always saying is one of the reasons.

What does everyone else think, should the dollar be linked to a gold standard or not?

Yes the dollar should be linked to the dollar, but it won't be.  There will be some black market bartering in the future. However we will in the next few years become a cashless society. Salaries, savings, all currencies will be converted into credits. We will be implanted with a microchip and only be able to sell or buy with our credits on the chip
